THE GETTING HERE
To make a long story short....
I drove to Nashville from Virginia in the early
nineties in an old truck with a TV and clothes
in back, my life savings ($2,000) in my pocket
and my "singin'" dreams in my head. I paid five
months rent on a place in advance, got a day job
(mail order at the Country Music Hall of Fame)
and a night job (dishwashing at the Bluebird
Cafe) to make ends meet. I played and sang for
anyone who'd listen.
To make a long story short....
I met my wife at my day job. We were married six
months in and immediately started having babies.
We took in roommates to help pay the rent and
had the babies at home because we had no
insurance. We had no idea we had nothing; just
kept the faith, kept raising our kids, "making
ends meet", and chasing my dream, together.
To make a long story short....
A few people went out on a limb for me and
believed in my. Some artists started taking
notice in my songwriting. Kenny Chesney recorded
one of my songs, then Gary Allan had a hit with
one, then Kenny again, Billy Currington, Tracy
Byrd, Trace Adkins, Tim McGraw, George Straight,
Garth Brooks, Montgomery Gentry, Eric Church,
Rodney Atkins.... I have been blessed.
To make a long story short....
Meanwhile, I have been watching, listening,
humming and writing about the real world and
what's gone on in America in my lifetime. I
still believe in hard work, dreams, God, family,
our Military, responsibility, accountability for
the choices we make and the freedom to make
those choices.
To make a long story short....
I believe we all need reminding from time to
time, there are more of us that believe in
everything America was founded on that those
that don't.
Thanks for listening. May God bless America and
God bless you.
